2013

  1. July 2013: The journal paper entitled: "Polar Quantizer for Wireless Receivers: Theory, Analysis, and CMOS Implementation," was accepted for publications to IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems - Part I: Regular Papers. This paper presents comprehensive analysis and design of the first CMOS polar quantizer.   Congratulations to Peyman, Byun-Kwan, and Fred.

  2. July 2013: The journal paper entitled: "A 200 GHz Inductively Tuned VCO with -7dBm Output Power in 130nm SiGe BiCMOS," was accepted for publications to IEEE Trans. on Microwave Theory and Techniques. This paper present a sub-THz VCO with highest efficiency and tuning figure-of-merit.

  3. June 2013: Congratulations to Drs. Leland Gilreath and Byung-Kwan Chun.

  4. June 2013: Peyman presented his paper to IEEE RFIC Symposium 2013. The talk is on "A 130nm CMOS Polar Quantizer for Cellular Applications."

  5. Feb. 2013: Francis presented his ISSCC 2013 paper. The talk is on "A 93-113GHz BiCMOS 9-Element Imaging Array Receiver Utilizing Spatial-Overlapping Pixels with Wideband Phase and Amplitude Control"

  6. Feb. 2013: Zheng presented his ISSCC 2013 paper. The talk is on "A 210 GHz Fully Integrated Differential Transceiver with Fundamental Frequency VCO in 32 nm SOI CMOS"

 

2012

  1. Great News: The NCIC Labs will have two papers in IEEE ISSCC 2013. Congratulations to all NCIC Labs Students involved in these two remarkable works.

  2. Follow the link:  http://tvlsi.eecs.northwestern.edu/top25.htm .  The TVLSI paper entitled: "Design of Ultra High-Speed Low-Voltage CMOS CML buffers and Latches,"  was ranked FIRST among top 25 downloaded papers in 2007. It was ranked SECOND and THIRD among top 25 downloaded papers in 2008 and 2009.

  3. March 2012: Zhiming passed his Ph.D. Defense exam and received his Ph.D. degree. Congratulations Dr. Chen.

  4. March 2012: Chun passed his Ph.D. Defense exam and received his Ph.D. degree. Congratulations Dr. Wang.

  1. Oct. 2011: Lerland's work on W-Band SiGe Direct-Detection-Based Passive Imager Using a Balanced LNA with an Embedded Dicke Switch published in IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits

  2. Nov. 2011: The NCIC Labs will have two papers in T-MTT Special Issue on RFIC Symposium, which will appear in May 2012.

  3. June 2011: Two RFIC papers entitled: (1) A Fully Integrated 96GHz 2×2 Focal-Plane Array with On-Chip Antenna, and (2) A CMOS 818-GHz GBW Differential Distributed Amplifier with Distributed Active Input Balun," were nominated for Best Student Awards.

  4. May 2011: NCIC Labs presented three papers in RFIC Symposium 2011

  5. May 2011: Amin Jahanian passed his Ph.D. Defense exam and received his Ph.D. degree. Congratulations Dr. Jahanian

  1. May 2010: Zhiming presented a paper entitled "An 85-95.2 GHz Transformer-Based Injection-Locked Frequency Tripler in 65nm CMOS," to IEEE IMS 2010.

  2. May 2010: Leland presented a paper entitled "A 94-GHz Passive Imaging Receiver using a Balanced LNA with Embedded Dicke Switch," to IEEE RFIC Symposium 2010.

  3. May 2010: In IEEE IMS 2010, a talk was given to a Workshop on Millimeter-Wave SiGe/CMOS and III-IV Chips and Imaging Systems. 
  4. April 2010: Leland presented a paper entitled "A Fully-Integrated W-band Imaging Receiver IC in Silicon-Germanium BiCMOS Technology," to SPIE Defense Security + Sensing Symposium 2010.
  5. March 2010: Fred passed his Ph.D. Defense exam and received his Ph.D. degree. Congratulations Dr. Tzeng

  2. August 2009: The JSSC Special Issue for CICC 2008, published in August 2009, includes Vipul's paper entitled: "A BiCMOS Dual-Band Millimeter-Wave Frequency Synthesizer for Automotive Radars." Congratulations to Vipul and Babak Javid.
  3. July 2009: Vipul Jain successfully passed his Ph.D. Defense exam and received his Ph.D. degree. Congratulations Dr. Jain.

  5. April 2009: The Journal Paper entitled "A 22-29GHz UWB Pulse-Radar Receiver Front-End in 0.18μm CMOS,"  was accepted for the Aug. 2009 issue of IEEE Trans. on Microwave Theory and Techniques. Congratullations to Vipul and Sriramkumar.
  6. April 2009: NCLC Lab Members Fred Tzeng and Vipul Jain were part of the team that won the First Prize Award for the 2009 Business Plan Competition at UC-Irvine.

 

2008

  2. Nov. 2008: The ISSCC paper entitled: "A Single-Chip Dual-Band 22-29GHz / 77-81GHz BiCMOS Transceiver for Automotive Radars," was accepted for publication. Congratulations to Vipul, Fred, and Lei.
  3. June 2008: Fred Tzeng and Amin Jahanian won the Low-Power Design Contest Award at the 2008 IEEE ISLPED Conference.
  4. June 2008: The RFIC 2008 paper, with Fred Tzeng as the first author, on "A CMOS Code-Modulated Path-Sharing Multi-Antenna Receiver Front-End for Spatial Multiplexing, Spatial Diversity and Beamforming," was nominated for Best Student Paper Award.
  5. June 2008: Student members of the NCIC Lab will be doing summer internship at high-tech companies including Qualcomm, Fujitsu Labs of America, IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, and Finisar.  
  6. June 2008: Vipul Jain's and Babak Javid's paper on a Silicon-Based MMW Frequency Synthesizer was accepted for oral presentation and publication to the 2008 CICC Conference.
  7. April 2008: Vipul Kumar received his M.S. degree and graduated from the NCIC Lab. He is currently a Design Engineer at Qualcomm Corporation.  

 

2007

  1. Dec. 2007: Deyi Pi finished his M.S. degree and graduated from the NCIC Lab. He is currently a Design Engineer at Broadcom Corporation.

  2. Nov. 2007: Fred and Amin's paper on "A CMOS Multi-Band Inductor Re-Use Low Noise Amplifier," was accepted to IEEE TCAS-II Special Issue on on Multifunctional Circuits and Systems for Future Generation of Wireless Communications.

  3. Sept. 2007: Fred Tzeng received the prestigious Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Fellowship.

  4. August 2007: The JSSC paper entitled: "Design and Analysis of a Performance-Optimized CMOS UWB Distributed LNA," was ranked among top 100 IEEE journals in October 2007. See announcement.
  5. August 2007: The JSSC paper entitled: "CMOS Distributed Active Power Combiners and Splitters for Multi-Antenna UWB Beamforming Transceivers" was ranked among top 100 IEEE journals in July and August 2007. See announcement.

  6. June 20, 2007: Student members of the NCIC Lab will be doing summer internship at several high-tech companies including Qualcomm, Fujitsu Labs of America, Broadcom, Maxim Semiconductor.

  7. June 15, 2007: Deyi Pi will present a paper and be given an Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)/CICC student scholarship award to attend and participate in the upcoming Custom Integrated Circuits Conference (CICC) 2007 September 16-19 in San Jose, Calif.

  8. June 1, 2007: The student members of NCIC Lab will present three papers to CICC 2007.

  9. April 1, 2007: Fred Tzeng received the Department of EECS Teaching Award.

 

2006

  1. Dec. 5, 2006: Deyi Pi Passed his qualifying exam.

  2. Nov. 15, 2006: Aminghasem Safarian passed his Ph.D. Defense exam.

  5. June 20, 2006: Vipul Jain Successfully passed his qualifying exam.

  6. June 14, 2006: Lei Zhou successfully passed his qualifying exam.

  7. June 11, 2006: A one-hour tutorial on the Design of Performance-Optimized Distributed RFICs for UWB Radio was presented in the 2006 IEEE MTT-S.

  8. June 1, 2006: A pending U.S. patent on Distributed Delay-Locked-Based Clock and Data recovery Systems was successfully issued.
